FAQ
Questions we hear a lot.
Is LedgerBeaver an AI, or just an AI-friendly app?
Neither. LedgerBeaver is a finance platform with a Model Context Protocol server in front. You bring the AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, or one you built yourself). We provide the tools, the data, and the audit log.
Is LedgerBeaver right for my business?
Best fit: US-based service businesses — agencies, consultancies, professional and creative firms — and solo founders or micro-teams who'd rather their AI handled the books. If your finances are mostly invoices out and bills in, you'll feel at home. Not yet a fit: inventory-heavy retail, construction job-costing, SaaS revenue recognition, multi-entity consolidation, or payroll as your primary need — those are on the roadmap, not ready today. We'd rather tell you up front than waste your time.
Can I use my own agent / private LLM?
Yes. Anything that speaks MCP — including self-hosted clients and your own custom agents — can connect. We never see your model traffic; only the tool calls and responses, which are scoped per-action.
What about data security?
Data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). We're not yet SOC 2 certified, but we follow SOC 2-aligned security practices: scoped per-tool access tokens you can revoke anytime, and a tamper-evident, SHA-256 hash-chained audit trail on every AR, AP, and GL record. SOC 2 is on our roadmap.
Do you replace QuickBooks / Xero?
LedgerBeaver is a standalone GL — it can replace QuickBooks for AP/AR-driven businesses. There's no live two-way sync today: you can import your vendors, customers, and open invoices via CSV, and a guided QuickBooks migration is on the roadmap. If you're not ready to switch, you can run LedgerBeaver alongside your existing books and compare.
Can I try it before joining a waitlist?
The product is in private beta. The Dam tour and web app demo are live with sample data — explore freely.
How does pricing work for AI token usage?
You're paying your AI provider directly (Anthropic, OpenAI, whoever). We don't mark up tokens. LedgerBeaver charges only for the platform.
